The Organisers would like to alert Visitors and Exhibitors to the London International Music Show 2009 to the news that unfortunately The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union have taken strike action on the Tube on 9-11 June.

LONDON UNDERGROUND TUBE STRIKE

IMPORTANT THIS DOES DOES NOT AFFECT THE CONSUMER DAYS.

The Organisers would like to alert Visitors and Exhibitors to the London International Music Show 2009 to the news that unfortunately The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union have taken strike action on the Tube on 9-11 June.

London Underground staff and unions have posted notice of a 48 hour strike which began at 18.59 on Tuesday 9th June and lasts until 18.58 on Thursday 11th June.

Below is an update of the different ways to reach ExCeL:

Docklands Light Railway (DLR) – DLR services are unaffected by the strike action and all routes across the network will operate normally. From central London, you can take the DLR from Tower Gateway in the direction of Beckton (direct to Custom House for ExCeL ) or from Bank in the direction of Woolwich Arsenal (change at Canning Town for a Beckton bound service for ExCeL).

London Overground – all Overground services are unaffected by the strike and will operate normally. Advice is to travel to Stratford and change onto DLR services.

Mainline Stations – the list below suggests viable alternative methods of reaching the DLR from key mainline stations and regional train services;

Southeastern Trains Alight at Lewisham and/or Woolwich Arsenal for the DLR

Southern Trains Alight at Waterloo for River Boat Services from London Eye Millennium Pier to Tower Millennium Pier or Canary Wharf Pier for the DLR

South West Trains Alight at Waterloo for River Boat Services from London Eye Millennium Pier to Tower Millennium Pier or Canary Wharf Pier for the DLR

C2C Trains Alight at Limehouse or Fenchurch Street for the DLR

National Express East Anglia Alight at Stratford for the DLR

First Capital Connect Alight at London Bridge for River Boat Services from London Bridge City Pier to Tower Millennium Pier or Canary Wharf Pier for the DLR

Please refer to link - DLR Route Map for directions on how to continue with DLR journeys to Custom House for ExCeL.

For detailed and specific route information from all other departure points across the capital, please refer to www.tfl.gov.uk/journeyplanner (deselect the tube transport mode from the advanced options section).

For further detailed information about the extra transport provisions being put on by TfL, please refer to the Beat The Strike Guide http://www.bbc.co.uk/london/content/articles/2009/05/29/tube_strike_june09_feature.shtml

By Road:

If you are traveling by road, ExCeL is easily accessible by road from the M25, M11, A406, A13 and there’s a good map available with clear directions for download from http://www.excel-london.co.uk/visitors/travel/byroad. The full post code for ExCeL is E16 1XL. The venue offers on-site car parking for 2,500 cars, including 1,600 spaces directly beneath the venue. For international visitors ExCel is situated next to http://www.londoncityairport.com/ and is five minutes taxi journey away.

We would advise all visitors to allow extra time for their journeys and to plan alternative routes using public buses to reach Bank or Tower Gateway.

Visit www.tfl.gov.uk/journeyplanner for further assistance and latest news.

We look forward to welcoming you to the show.

Peavey has announced that it will again host an exhibitor party during next month's LIMS show and have booked The Committments nine piece band to play at the Novotel main bar after the trade day on the 11th June.

Peavey has announced that it will again host an exhibitor party during next month’s LIMS show. Last year Peavey invited trade visitors to the main performance hall, where they were treated to a set by The Blockheads. This year’s event takes place in the more relaxed atmosphere of the main bar of the Novotel London ExCel - but there’s no relaxation in the standard of entertainment provided, with The Commitments booked to appear.

The band first came together during the worldwide media tour to promote the multiple award-winning movie, The Commitments - and was promptly inundated with offers of gigs. Built around drummer Dick Massey (Billy ‘The Animal’ Mooney in the film) and Kenneth McCluskey (Derek ‘Meat-man’ Scully), the nine-piece band became a permanent touring unit in 1993, taking the sound of ‘Dublin Soul’ to an international audience.

The venue will be decked out, naturally enough, with Peavey PA - two Versarray 112s plus a two double 18″ subs ground-stacked on each side, powered by Crest amplification - while The Commitments will play through Peavey and Trace Elliot backline. Lighting is provided courtesy of Pulsar Light of Cambridge.

Peavey has issued an open invitation for all LiMS exhibitors and trade visitors to enjoy the party and the musical entertainment, which takes place on Thursday 11 June at the Novotel main bar after the show’s opening trade day. The company is also laying on food and drink (vouchers available from the Peavey stand during show hours first come first served basis) for Peavey dealers, media and special guests.

On 12th June, MFY Friday, Sandarac will be giving away two handcrafted, European made, violins to the lucky winners of their ‘Just A Minute’ competition. To win, budding young violinists must convince our panel of expert judges that they are the most musically entertaining performer in their age group at LIMS 2009 by busking for ‘Just A Minute’. The competition is open to all, from beginner to virtuosi. One prize of a ¾ size violin will be awarded to the best in the under 12 age group and a full size violin will go to the winner of the 12-16 age group. The competition is being run in conjunction with the European String Teachers’ Association and Music for Youth, to both of whom we would like to extend our thanks for their support and commitment.

On the judging panel we will have Raphael Radoux, manic Belgian violinist and improviser, and hopefully David Juritz, of the London Mozart Players, with us. Joining them are members of the Royal Ballet Orchestra and the Royal College.

Sound On Sound are once again the Media Sponsors of the Sound Recording Technology sector of the London International Music Show, and we're putting together another massive studio prize, worth around £22,000.

Sound On Sound are once again the Media Sponsors of the Sound Recording Technology sector of the London International Music Show, and we’re putting together another massive studio prize, worth around £22,000.
Based on a Digidesign 003-based Pro Tools system running on a Digital Village Synergy PC, the SOS Dream Studio 2009 will also include Ableton Live, Propellerheads Reason, Digidesign’s AIR Virtual Instruments Collection and Music Production Toolkit, a suite of GForce soft synths, Toontrack’s Superior 2, plus restoration and mastering software from iZotope.
Shure’s SM27 and PG27, Sontronics’ STC2, an SE 4400A, a pair of AKG Perception 170s and a pair of Rode M3s will give the winner a range of mics to either bolster or start their mic collection, and heavy-duty mic stands from SE and Sontronics will enable them to position the mics in exactly the right spot. An SE Reflection Filter will help to improve acoustic isolation for home-studio recordings.
Monitoring will be provided by KRK, who will equip the winner with the latest RP6 G2 nearfield monitors and their 10S 10-inch subwoofer, with an Ergo to make sure what’s coming out of the speakers is in tune with the room, which Auralex will analyse and treat, to ensure any sonic discrepancies are overcome at source.
For the keys players, there’s a Yamaha Motif XS6 workstation, complete with Ulitmate Support stand, to act as a master keyboard, while a MicroKorg XL will provide some extra synth flavours for the winner to mix into their tracks. A Novation Zero SL MkII will provide additional control, and an ESI M8U XL will allow the winner to connect additional MIDI equipment to the prize system.
Guitarists won’t be left out: a Washburn WI64 Relic and a Blackstar HT5 valve combo amplifier, complete with a Radial J48 for direct-injection, will suit the needs of most noodlers, and a Moog Murf filter pedal will transport the winner to a whole new world of shimmering pattern-based resonance.
On the outboard hardware side, a Focusrite Octopre will increase the number of analogue inputs and outputs to the prize system to 16, and provide eight channels of tried-and-tested mic preamps with dynamics, while a TL Audio Ebony A4 Summer summing mixer will enable the user to mix to stereo in the analogue domain. An SSL Mynx, plus two X-Rack modules of the winner’s choice, will inject that SSL sound to the winner’s mixes, and a Universal Audio UAD2 Solo will help to spice things up in the software domain, thanks to its faithful models of classic studio gear.
If that wasn’t enough, the winner will get expert Pro Tools training from Alchemea, the Home Studio Certificate from SAE, plus two hours of private guitar, piano, drums, or vocal lessons from Tech Music schools. Last, but possibly most important of all, Adam Hall will supply the necessary cabling to connect the studio prize together. If you win, you’ll be the envy of, well, everyone at the show!
To enter the competition, you’ll have to visit SOS on stand E8 at LIMS. If you haven’t booked your ticket yet, head to www.londoninternationalmusicshow.com. We’ll see you there.
